Sol-Can®
This new type of canister for haemodialysis concentrate is designed to help make day-to-day treatment easier and more comfortable for renal care nurses.
Haemodialysis is a multifaceted procedure. Due to the high level of complexity and nursing staff shortages, it is crucial to optimise processes as much as possible. It is equally important to help reduce the workload of nurses who play an important role in dialysis. After all, a reduced workload can mean more time for attentive patient care. Thus, every work process that is simplified may contribute to a better work environment. The easier handling of the new canisters affects the wellbeing of the nursing staff while generating less waste and helping to reduce environmental impact.
Have you ever noticed that many handles are too narrow or even cut into your hands because of the plastic seam on the inner edge? Just as people are different, hands are different too: big, small, narrow or stronger. The ergonomic unisex handle of Sol-Can® A canister adapts to each hand individually. This is especially advantageous for longer transport routes, because it can be more comfortable to transport canisters from the warehouse to the interim storage or to the treatment stations and to place them easily under the corresponding machines. As the flaps are securely attached to the canister, two canisters can be carried comfortably in one hand.
There is even more good news. Caps are often difficult to open by hand and sometimes you even need an additional opener. So this can become a troublesome problem during preparation. Apart from hurting the hands, it can cost precious time that nurses simply do not have. With the new cap, less force is required to open the canister compared to our former one. Plus, the opening is larger and located in the centre of the canister, which makes it easy to put the suction rod in.
Due to the inner dome geometry the canisters are particularly stable, and therefore easily stackable. With just a thin protective film which can quickly and easily be removed, there is no need for additional secondary cardboard packaging.
The suction rod can be easily inserted and the filling volume is clearly visible thanks to the canister’s transparency.
Dialysis is affecting our planet. One of the most pressing problems in the dialysis process is the use of plastic canisters which contain the acid concentrate. These canisters are not biodegradable and end up in landfill, where they take hundreds of years to decompose. Their production consumes fossil fuels and increases emissions of greenhouse gases that can contribute to climate change.
Therefore, we need to consider the impact of dialysis on the environment and to look for more sustainable solutions. One possibility is to switch to canisters with less plastic. This can help reduce the amount of plastic waste generated during dialysis.
