Q: What should I do if my Easypump® II does not seem to be working?
A: If your pump does not seem to be functioning, please initially check the following:
Consult your healthcare provider and inform them of the cause. If the cause is not found, please ask your healthcare provider for further instructions.
Q: I can see air bubbles in my Easypump® II. Do I need to worry?
A: No, there is no cause for concern. Your pump has a built-in air filter which prevents air from being infused into your VAD. Visible bubbles will likely disappear in a short while.
Q: How do I know the infusion is finished?
A: When your pump has deflated on all sides, this signifies the completion of the infusion. Please wait until all the fluid has left the reservoir.
Q: What do I do if my Easypump® II runs out before my next clinic appointment?
A: Please contact your healthcare provider for further instructions.
Q: How do I disconnect my empty Easypump® II?
A: Check first with your healthcare provider whether your pump can be disconnected independently. To disconnect the pump, follow the steps on the disconnection checklist.
Q: How do I dispose of my empty Easypump® II?
A: Your healthcare provider will provide instructions for adequate disposal.
Q: Can my Easypump® II be re-used?
A: Your pump is single use only. Therefore, you must not re-use the pump.
Can I use my Easypump® II while getting an MRI?
A: Yes, your pump can be left connected while receiving an MRI as there are no components which are either metallic or conductive and will thus not interfere with the electromagnetic field.
Q: Can I use my Easypump® II during radiation treatment?
A: Yes, pump is suitable to be used with chemoradiotherapy. The radiation dose in the context of chemoradiation does not affect the properties and thus the desired functionality of the pump.
Q: Can I have a bath or shower with my Easypump® II?
A: Yes, you can take a bath or shower with your pump. Please make sure that the pump, the filter and the venous access area are protected from running water. Please check with your healthcare provider for further instructions.
Q: How do I place my Easypump® II while sleeping?
A: Prior to sleeping, take the pump out of the carry pouch and place it on a bedside table or next to your pillow. The pump should ideally be at the same level or height as your venous access device, thus do not place it at a level much lower or higher than your body. Make sure the pump is not covered or next to a heat source such as a radiator to prevent it from getting too warm.
Q: Will my Easypump® II burst if I accidently lie on it?
A: Your pump is very robust and will not burst under normal circumstances. However, as a precaution, do not expose the pump to unnecessary pressure (by sleeping or sitting on it). This could impact the flow rate.
Q: Can I take part in sporting activities with my Easypump® II?
A: Yes, mild exercise does not negatively affect the functioning of the pump. However, please stay away from rigorous physical exercise that could increase your body temperature or blood pressure. A significant increase in either or both of these factors would alter the flow rate of the pump.
Q: Can I go on a flight with my Easypump® II?
A: Yes, you can. Your infusion will not be affected while travelling by air. However, please discuss beforehand with your healthcare provider.
Q: How should I store my Easypump® II while travelling?
A: Make sure that your pump is not exposed to severe temperature changes. To support a constant temperature, the pump can be stored in an insulated carry pouch.
Q: Can I drive with my Easypump® II?
A: Yes, your pump itself does not hinder driving. However, please discuss this with your healthcare provider as the medication being received might not permit this.
Q: Can I go out with my Easypump® II?
A: Yes, you can go out. Make sure that your pump is protected under your clothes and your carry pouch. Weather conditions like temperature variations, direct UV-light, extreme humidity etc. might impact the flow rate.
