Impact on quality of life
Did you know that a stoma can have an output exceeding two litres a day, requiring multiple bag changes or emptying, even at night?
Especially in the first three weeks after surgery, many patients have to cope with high output, often having to wake frequently in the night in order to empty their stoma bag, which can have a great impact on their quality of sleep. This condition may also have an impact on their quality of life as they have to cope with multiple other physiological, social and psychological challenges.
Our solution
Being fully concious about the impact that this situation can have on patients' daily and social lives, B. Braun has developed, in collaboration with stoma nurses, the Flow Collector. This 2-litre bag can be connected distally to different high flow stoma bags and is designed to collect high volumes of liquid stool.
The combination of a drainable ostomy bag and distal collecting bag may help to avoid patients with high output stomas waking frequently at night, helping them get a good night's sleep and improving their recovery time.
