What is MSSA and MRSA?

Staphylococcus Aureus (MSSA) is a common type of bacteria notorious for causing infections. These bacteria can be found harmlessly on the skin and in the nose of up to one-third of the population - this is known as colonisation. 

Certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus are resistant to commonly used antibiotics and are referred to as MRSA (Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Although harmless externally, there is a risk that if you have a wound or break in the skin, these bacteria can get inside the body which can potentially cause an infection.

Decolonisation is required before certain medical procedures to reduce these bacteria and minimise the risk of infection.

Previous evaluations have shown that nurses found that Prontoderm was much easier to use, saved time and increased compliance when compared to other products.¹

Prontoderm products are classed as medical devices which require no prescription so decolonisation treatment can be initiated without delay, this includes the antibiotic-free gel for nasal decolonisation.  

Sustainability

B. Braun infection control products are manufactured in a state of the art facility in Sempach, Switzerland. This was a flagship project for B. Braun in terms of sustainability - all the heating used for production and buildings is generated using clean, renewable geothermal energy.
